The Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas refused to criticise the decision taken by the referee. However, he has said that it is actually a good thing that they will not be available for the second leg. Continue reading ADVANTAGE SPURS

REINA GLAD IF BALE GOES

The Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has said that he would be extremely delighted to see the back of the Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, who has caused him several problems over the years. The 23-year-old winger is regarded as one of the best in the world, with several clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona keeping tabs on his situation. After the announcement that the former Barcelona manager Guardiola will be taking over at the German club Bayern Munich, he has also been linked with a Germany as well. Over the years, Reina has suffered a lot of the hands of Bale.

Hence, the Spanish goalkeeper has said that he would be delighted if it was Gareth Bale who departed from the Premier league rather than the Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who continues to be linked with several clubs like Paris St Germain. Bale is expected to command a transfer fee in the region of £ 50 million. The Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas recently said that the possibility of Bale staying at White Hart Lane would be strengthened if the club managed to finish in the Champions league places. Tottenham are currently fourth in the table and they have a small advantage over their arch rivals Arsenal in terms of points.

“I can’t see Luis Suarez playing in La Liga. I think he’ll stay at Liverpool. He’s a great player. So are Bale and a few others in the Premier League. If Real Madrid signs Bale, I’ll be delighted. He causes me a lot of problems,” said Pepe Reina, who himself has been linked with a move to Barcelona in order to replace Victor Valdes. The 30-year-old Valdes has been linked with a move away from Barcelona after his refusal to sign the contract with the club. Reina played for Barcelona during his childhood days.

FERGIE TRIED FOR BALE

The Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he tried to sign the Welsh winger Gareth Bale before the former Southampton man moved to Tottenham. Bale was signed from Southampton for £ 5 million as a teenager. Even though he did not have the best of starts with the Premier league club, he has since risen to the position of being one of the best players in the world. He has been linked with all the major clubs like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Chelsea in the last few months. Ferguson has said ahead of the match with Tottenham that Bale was one of his transfer targets before Tottenham secured his signature.

However, the 70-year-old has revealed that he does not have any regrets about not signing Bale because there have been many situations in which United have not signed players they liked a lot. Ferguson has quoted the example of Paul Gascoigne, who also moved to Tottenham despite interest from Manchester United. At 23 years of age, Bale still has a lot of time in football. The winger has already scored close to 10 goals this season. He is regarded as one of the important players at Tottenham, and he was responsible for the 3-2 victory over United earlier in the season.

“We tried to buy him from Southampton and they turned us down. It was not the boy who turned us down, it was Southampton, then a few weeks later he signed for Tottenham. It happens. You don’t get them all. As I said before, we would have loved to have got (Paul) Gascoigne but we didn’t – but we did get Paul Ince and he was a great player for us. These things happen,” said Ferguson, whose team will be looking to restore the seven point lead in the table.

BALE WILL BE FIT

The Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has said that he expects the winger Gareth Bale to be fit for the visit by Swansea next weekend. Tottenham will be taking on Swansea City at the White Hart Lane next weekend. It is an extremely crucial match for the club given that they were recently defeated 2-1 by Everton during the weekend. This result has meant that they have fallen to the fifth position in the Premier league table, while also allowing Arsenal to close the gap further. Tottenham looked like a goal from Clint Dempsey was enough to get all three points at Goodison Park, but they allowed two injury time goals to lose the match.

Tottenham were extremely poor in the attacking sense and only managed to score the goal through a deflection. One of the main reasons for this was due to the lack of the winger Gareth Bale, who is regarded as one of the best players in the world. He missed the action after suffering a hamstring injury just before the match, but the Tottenham manager expects him to be back into the first-team action by next weekend. Three points against Swansea is extremely important for Tottenham given that they need to pick up momentum before the start of the Christmas and New Year fixtures.

“There is a strong possibility Gareth Bale could be fit for our next game. But I felt Clint Dempsey did well in his position on the left. The problem was that Everton became a bit more aggressive with their approach play and started hitting us with long balls, and we suffered as a consequence. It was a very disappointing result,” said Andre Villas-Boas after the match. This defeat means that Tottenham have lost the most number of points in the final 10 min of the match.

TOTTENHAM LOSE TO CITY

Tottenham Hotspur has been defeated by Manchester City in a Premier League match played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. Tottenham lost the match by a narrow margin of 2-1. This was the fourth defeat for the spurs in the competition. Tottenham has now lost three out of its last four Premier League matches.

Because of this defeat, Tottenham has moved down to no. 7 in the points table with 17 points in 11 matches. On the other hand, Manchester City has moved up to no. 2 with this victory. The defending Champions are undefeated in the ongoing Premier League so far. They have won 7 out of the 11 matches that they have played in the tournament and the rest 4 matches have ended in the form of draws.

The City team wasn’t off to a great start in the match and got trailed by 0-1 in the 21st minute. Tottenham got a free kick and Tom Huddlestone was asked to take the free kick. He whipped in a fine shot and Steven Caulker did the rest by flicking the ball into the net with a header. The City team didn’t manage to equalise the scores in the first half.

The scores got levelled in the 65th minute. It was a poor display of defense by the visitors. They could have cleared the ball, but, they failed in doing so and allowed Yaya Toure to pass the ball to Sergio Aguero who beat Friedel with a low shot from a distance of 12 yards.

The Spurs lost the plot just a few minutes before the end of the game. The decider was scored by Edin Dzeko in the 88th minute of the match. The goal was set up by David Silva and Dzeko gave the finishing touch with a fine volley.

Manchester City will play its next match against Aston Villa on 17th of November at the same venue.

BETTER THAN LAST SEASON

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has told Tottenham Soccer News that the club that are much better than they were last season. Tottenham grabbed the fourth spot in the Premier league last season after impressive showing throughout the whole season under the former manager Harry Redknapp.

However, they have lost some important players over the summer in the form of Luka Modric. Despite the loss of the Croatian midfielder, the Welsh winger Gareth Bale reckons that they have brought in some impressive replacements the form of Dembele. Further, the permanent signing of the Togo international striker Emmanuel Adebayor is a major boost the club.

Even though the total spending of the club has been very limited in the last transfer window, they have managed to get a number of fresh players over the summer. Some of the players have proven Premier league experience, while the Belgian defender Vertonghen is one of the few without Premier league experience. As a result of this increased squad, the Tottenham winger Gareth Bale believes that he will be able to achieve his dream of once again playing in the Champions League. Gareth Bale has so far had only one season of the Premier European football competition.

“It does take time. Everybody should understand that. There has been an improvement in every game and you saw that at Reading. Everybody just has to be patient. Things will come and it’ll start to click like it did yesterday and, hopefully, we can push on from there. There’s no reason why we can’t kick on. I think we’ve got some great players. The new signings we’ve brought in are great and they’ve been great additions. We’ve got a stronger squad now than we did at the start of the season,” said Gareth Bale after the win over QPR that pushed Tottenham into the top half.
